PVP 2026, July 19-24

UTComp engineering analyst Karelle Guiao will present a new paper at the 60th annual Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference (PVP 2026), organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), in Anaheim, Calif. in July.

Topic: Verifying Allowable Remaining Strength Factor in Fitness For Service Assessment of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Pressure Equipment

The paper, co-authored with Geoff Clarkson, is based on the real-world results of a UTComp failure analysis of an FRP pipe in chemical service.

It illustrates the value of the new Remaining Strength Factor (RSF) calculation for FRP which is included in the proposed Part 16 of the API 579-1 / ASME FFS-1 standard.

2026 API Inspection and Mechanical Integrity Summit, July 20-23

Geoff Clarkson will be presenting a training course on Damage and Assessment of Equipment made from FRP for inspectors and engineers (registration required) at the 2026 API Inspection and Mechanical Integrity Summit.

This 8-hour session will introduce inspection and evaluation of FRP that detects damage and then applies this information to assess Fitness For Service.  These methods are in the upcoming Part 16 of API 579.  Examples will be provided and worked to show the scope of inspection and assessment.  The NDE data from the examples will then be applied to determine FFS and remaining life.
