Composite asset excellence for the petrochemical and refining industry
Petrochemical and refining companies rely on the integrity and performance of composite assets for safe, efficient operations. We work with oil and gas industry leaders around the world – including BP, SABIC and Aramco – to deliver the best composite material solutions for the circumstances, no matter how challenging.
Your composite subject matter experts
UTComp was founded in 2008 to provide a full spectrum of engineering and inspection services for composite fabrication and management excellence. Our proprietary UltraAnalytix® inspection system is the only proven non-destructive and non-intrusive evaluation and service life forecasting of FRP and composite tanks, pipes and other industrial assets. Learn more about UTComp and our professional associations and accreditation.
What is UltraAnalytix® inspection and how does it work?
The UltraAnalytix® system combines ultrasonic data collected in the field, external visual inspection and analysis using a proprietary algorithm.
Data can be collected from an external surface often while tanks or piping are in operation, thereby limiting the need for confined space entry. There is never a need to cut test samples out of the asset, allowing the structural integrity to remain intact and reducing the need for confined space entry. Learn more about UltraAnalytix®.
UTComp maintains a database of asset information for ongoing evaluation of remaining service life. This is a critical component of a robust mechanical integrity program.
The UltraAnalytix® system is the only method for FRP inspection that has undergone rigorous scientific testing. Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA) and York University (Canada) show UltraAnalytix® delivers results in agreement with results from comparative destructive tests. Learn more about validation of UltraAnalytix® inspection for composite materials.
A case study involving a retired FRP scrubber demonstrates the value of the UltraAnalytix® system for determining Remaining Service Life and as a guide for repair and replacement. This case study reveals that replacement of the scrubber would not have been necessary for at least another 19 years, if not more, for considerable cost savings. View the case study.
Offshore PROD Boom
UTComp made an emergency visit to an offshore platform in the North Atlantic to investigate a downed PROD boom. Following inspection with the UltraAnalytix® system, it was determined that damage was cosmetic only, with no structural effect on the FRP of the boom. The results were expedited so the company could make the right decision quickly and return to full operating capacity within 24 hours of the results. Learn more details about this case study here.
